ELECTRIC DREAM, the new CD
played by the italian guitarist Marco Pavin, came out in
2001. It is entirely dedicated to the solo contemporary
electric guitar.
The CD is composed of 5 tunes,
for a total duration of 60 minutes. The first piece is the
well-known
"Electric
Counterpoint" by
Steve
Reich, in a completely
electric version, closer to the original author's
purpose.
The
american composer and Brandeis professor Eric
Chasalow is present with
the piece "
'Scuse Me".
"Virtual
Melodies" by
Michele
Biasutti is a tune that
recalls Ligeti's perpetual motion;
"J
X",
by Lucio
Garau, is a work dedicated
to Jimi Hendrix;
"Electric
Dream",
by the guitarist Marco
Pavin himself, is a piece
between jazz and contemporary music.
Characteristic of the CD is
the presence of solo electric guitar used in a contemporary
music context, never academic and always looking at other
realities of today's cultured music, such as jazz. Electric
guitar, matched with effects, appears in various contexts:
as a pure solo instrument, in a multi-track recording,
combined with live-electronics and with computer-generated
sounds.
